Karachi Airport Special Assistance
Plan wheelchair, reduced-mobility, sensory and medical assistance for a journey through Jinnah International Airport (KHI). The airline coordinates flight-specific assistance; airport staff provide on-site direction and emergency support.
Quick answer
Request assistance through your airline early
Add the request to the booking as early as possible and describe what help is needed, not only “wheelchair”. Airlines have their own notice periods; several carriers ask for at least 48 hours for some services, while Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) says requests may be made at booking, after ticketing or on the day of travel.
Do not wait for the airport if you need a particular mobility service, medical clearance, oxygen, stretcher handling, help to the aircraft seat or carriage of a battery-powered mobility aid. Approval and aircraft arrangements belong to the airline.
When booking
Describe the complete journey
- How far the passenger can walk and whether stairs are possible.
- Whether help is needed through check-in, security, immigration or baggage claim.
- Whether assistance is needed to reach the aircraft seat.
- Details of a personal wheelchair, battery, medical device or service animal.
- Any connection where assistance must continue.
Confirm the request
Check before travel day
Ask the airline to confirm that the assistance request is attached to every relevant flight. Reconfirm after a schedule, flight-number or operating-airline change because the original service request may need to be transferred.
Carry the airline confirmation and any required medical form or certificate.
Personal mobility aids
Give the airline technical details
For a wheelchair or mobility aid, provide its dimensions, weight, folding method and battery type. Battery-powered equipment can require advance notice and dangerous-goods checks; the airline decides how it can be carried.
Label detachable parts and keep the operating instructions available. Ask where the aid will be returned on arrival.
Medical needs
Separate airport first aid from fitness to fly
The current PAA aerodrome record lists first-aid treatment, rest rooms and two ambulances at Karachi Airport. The official airport page also directs passengers to a facilitation counter, a “For Your Help” team member or the PAA Medical Inspection room / clinic.
This does not replace airline medical clearance. Contact the airline in advance for oxygen, onboard medical equipment, recent illness, surgery or any condition that may affect safe travel.
At the airport
Identify the request at check-in
Arrive within the airline's stated time and tell check-in staff that assistance was booked. Official guidance recommends reaching Karachi Airport two hours before domestic departures and four hours before international departures.
If the service is not present, show the confirmation and ask the airline supervisor or an airport information desk for help.
Sensory and non-visible needs
State the practical support required
Tell the airline if the passenger needs escort assistance, spoken or written instructions, help navigating queues, extra time or support because of a visual, hearing, cognitive or non-visible condition.
Airline crew and airport staff cannot always provide personal-care or medical-attendant services. Ask what is included and whether a companion is required.
Arrival at Karachi
Plan the handover point
Confirm whether assistance continues through immigration, baggage reclaim and customs and where the passenger will be handed to the person meeting them. Pickup drivers should allow extra time and monitor the flight before approaching the airport.
Urgent help
Do not rely on a web form in an emergency
For an immediate medical or safety problem at the airport, alert nearby uniformed airport or airline staff so the on-site response can be activated. A complaint or email is appropriate for follow-up, not emergency dispatch.
Keep essential medicine and medical documents in hand baggage within airline and security rules.
